The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has unveiled a roadmap to transform Khadi, a traditional Indian fabric, into a globally recognized brand. This ambitious plan, announced by KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar, aims to not only elevate Khadi's status but also empower rural artisans and strengthen the Indian economy.
KVIC, in collaboration with the Indian government, will focus on skill development programs to ensure the success of rural artisans in village industries and employment. A specific initiative, the "Silai Samriddhi Yojana," will target women, promoting their active participation in the Khadi sector.
This initiative aligns with KVIC's commitment to India's economic growth. The expansion of the 'Khadi Gram Swaraj Abhiyan' to every village is a key step towards achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a "Developed India" by 2047.
KVIC reports a significant boom in Khadi sales, with a fourfold increase in recent times. This growth has led to a substantial improvement in the lives of rural artisans. According to KVIC, artisan wages have seen a remarkable 233% increase in the last decade, making the Khadi industry a more attractive career path than ever before.
