UNDP’s Business and Human Rights (B+HR) programme works with governments, businesses, civil society, academia and other stakeholders to effectively implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and advance responsible business practices throughout global supply chains.
This includes improving the ability and understanding of businesses, suppliers and partners to carry out Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) effectively through meaningful stakeholder consultations and grievance redressal mechanisms. Please learn more here
According to the UNGPs, all business enterprises regardless of their size, sector, location, ownership, and structure, are required to undertake HRDD to identify, prevent and mitigate adverse impacts on people and the environment, thereby helping them manage potential and actual risks.
This obligation has been adopted by major economies, including Japan, Germany, France, Australia, and Norway, and most recently by the EU through its Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (EUCSDDD). Undoubtedly, this will also have significant implications on companies from India especially those that are part of or engage with the global supply chain.
In India this shift is signalled through the enforcement of the Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR) and the recent BRSR Core frameworks by India’s Market regulator – Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
With an aim of providing companies in the textile and apparel industry with an introduction into UNDP’s B+ HR Academy and the evolving regulatory landscape on responsible business practices both globally and in the Indian context, a virtual session is being organized on 25th November 2024.
