Code of Conduct for Prevention of Child Labor and Forced Labor in the Indian Textile Industry.
This code of conduct represents a commitment by the Indian textile and apparel industry to uphold ethical standards and worker rights by preventing child and forced labor. It mandates adherence to local laws, international conventions, and industry guidelines, emphasizing ethical sourcing, transparency, and accountability.
Key principles include:
Forced Labor Prohibition: Signatory factories must ensure that all work is voluntary and free from any form of coercion. Workers must not be subjected to bonded labor or any other form of forced labor.

Child Labor Prohibition: Signatory factories shall not allow any child under the age of 14 to work in the factory or its supply chain. The code also adheres to international standards and regulations regarding minimum age for employment.
Implementation Guidelines: Factories are required to establish and enforce guidelines to prevent child and forced labor, including having written policies, designated personnel, training procedures, and systems for verifying age and detecting/remediating child labor.
Worker Rights: Workers must be informed of their rights, provided with written contracts in a language they understand, and allowed to maintain possession of their personal documents.
The code also emphasizes compliance with applicable laws and ILO conventions, addressing gender inequality and discrimination, and extending these requirements throughout the supply chain.
