Background:
The 11th India & Sustainability Standards Summit 2024.
In India, coalitions like SU.RE support from various international organisations (like GIZ, UNEP, and the EU, etc.) are driving sustainable and circular fashion.
The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India (MoT), is engaging with stakeholders for policy action, and the Apparel Export Promotion Council's (AEPC) Sustainability Initiative promotes eco-friendly manufacturing. These efforts show progress in making the apparel and textile sectors (T&A) more sustainable and circular.
CRB is dedicated to advancing sustainability in India's apparel and textile sector. To end this, CRB has partnered with the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) and is leading a project on "Roadmap for Developing Circular Clusters in the Ludhiana Apparel & Textile Sector.".
This initiative aims to transform the Ludhiana textile cluster into a model of circularity by creating a robust framework that guides industry stakeholders and policymakers in adopting circular practices.
By enhancing resource efficiency and minimising environmental impact, the project will not only benefit Ludhiana but also serve as a blueprint for other textile clusters across India.
The session addressed the critical need for industries to adapt to new sustainability paradigms. It navigates the pitfalls of environmental degradation and resource depletion by providing a strategic pathway the the textile sector to thrive sustainably.
