Strengthening cotton’s position within the textile sector was the central topic of the 2025 edition of the Research Associates Program (RAP), organised by the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC).
Aimed at researchers and experts from around the world who are focused on cotton growing and sustainability, Brazil was represented in the program by the Brazilian Cotton Growers Association (Abrapa), through the Cotton Brazil program.Abrapa’s Sustainability Manager, Fabio Carneiro, participated in the meeting, which was held from April 7th to 11th in Tennessee (USA). He explains that, in addition to the presence of a diverse range of cotton producing countries, the event was notable due to ICAC’s strategic alignment as one of the most representative organizations in the global cotton industry.

Brazil's cotton production for the 2024 season underwent rigorous quality assessment.

Key Findings
16.9 million bales analyzed using High Volume Instrument (HVI) laboratories
High-quality fiber metrics:
92.4% of cotton within ideal micronaire range (3.5-4.9)
77.25% of fibers exhibited strength in the 28-32 g/tex range
91% of samples measured longer than 1.11 inches in length.

Twelve years after Rana Plaza collapse, it is high time for legal protection for workers

Thursday, 24th April, marks twelve years since the collapse of the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh. At least 1138 people died, the large majority of them garment workers in one of the five factories that the building housed. Although fashion brands professed in 2013 that this disaster would be a catalyst for change in their supply chains, actual progress has been limited to issues regulated by binding agreements.

The American Apparel & Footwear Association responds to a 90-day pause and lowering of “reciprocal” tariffs, as well as additional tariffs placed on U.S. imports from China, announced by President Trump today.

"The on-again, off-again tariff policy is forcing companies to careen between chaos and costs.
