Speaking on the sidelines of the Italian Fashion Days in India held recently in New Delhi, Aurora Russi, Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Italy, shared her perspective on the evolving partnership between Italian and Indian fashion industries. “For the Italian Embassy and the Italian system in India, we are delighted to present some of our finest examples of fashion and industry excellence in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad,” she said. “While highlighting the strength of Made in Italy, we aim to reinforce that fashion is also a key driver of business and cultural exchange between our two nations.”

Russi underlined that the event forms part of Italy’s broader diplomatic initiative launched by its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reflects Italy’s growing engagement with India. She expressed optimism about the forthcoming EU–India Free Trade Agreement, noting that both sides are attaching great importance to achieving a mutually beneficial outcome within the next few months.
Highlighting steady progress in bilateral trade, Russi pointed to two major business forums in 2025—one in New Delhi in April with over 400 Italian companies, and another in Brescia, Italy, attended by Minister Piyush Goyal and Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. “Our relationship has been elevated to a strategic partnership, and we continue to cooperate across multiple sectors including machinery, agri-tech, fashion, and technical textiles,” she said, confirming that another business forum is planned in India soon.
Addressing global trade challenges linked to evolving tariff policies, Russi viewed them as opportunities for diversification and collaboration. “Fashion may represent luxury in some respects, but it is also a generator of wealth at every level,” she remarked, adding that such developments encourage European enterprises to deepen their engagement with India.
Concluding, Russi expressed the Embassy’s enthusiasm for the initiative. “We are proud to host this event and hope it marks the first of many Italian Days dedicated to Made-in-Italy fashion,” she said.
