The Central Government has announced an extension of the import duty exemption on cotton until 31st December 2025, moving beyond the earlier deadline of 30th September 2025. According to a statement released by the Ministry of Finance on Thursday, 28th August, the move aims to ease raw material availability for India’s textile industry.
The exemption, which was first introduced on 19th August 2025 and scheduled to end in September, will now continue until the year-end. The government emphasized that this step is intended not only to stabilize cotton supplies for domestic manufacturers but also to provide added support to the country’s textile exporters.
