Delivering the keynote address at the 4th Global Cotton Conference held yesterday in New Delhi, Giriraj Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of Textiles, Government of India, conveyed a powerful message on the future of India’s cotton sector, coinciding with the celebration of World Cotton Day.
He extended his gratitude to industry leaders, delegates, and organizers including CITI and Ministry of Textiles, acknowledging their contributions to India’s cotton ecosystem.
Highlighting the conference theme—“Technology, Climate, and Competitiveness”—the Minister emphasized that climate change and sustainability are shared responsibilities, urging every individual and enterprise to contribute toward reducing carbon emissions and protecting natural resources.
Singh praised India’s progress under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, citing initiatives in renewable energy, climate neutrality, and the Cotton Mission, aimed at boosting productivity and farmer incomes.
He noted that the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for cotton had more than doubled since 2014, reaffirming the government’s commitment to farmers’ welfare.
Concluding on an optimistic note, the Minister underscored India’s pivotal role in global cotton, calling it the true sustainable fibre of the future, integral to both the nation’s economy and the planet’s well-being.
