First and foremost, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to ESDCCI, my fellow panelists, and all the participants present here. It is truly a privilege to be part of this session, where we are discussing one of the most crucial topics today—sustainable textiles.
Since this morning, we have explored processes, new technologies, machinery, and production innovations.
However, it is equally important to recognize the organizations that govern these standards, monitor compliance, and ensure that facilities meet sustainability and quality requirements.
At Bureau Veritas, we specialize in monitoring and certifying such standards. Established in France in 1828, Bureau Veritas has a rich history spanning nearly two centuries. Our divisions cover Marine Construction, Government Services, Consumer Product Services, and Certification Services.
We operate in Consumer Product Services, conducting inspections, audits, and testing—including sustainability assessments.
Over the years, we have evolved through modern standards revolutions in 1920, technical advancements in 1960, globalization in 1990, and diversification in 2010.
Today, Bureau Veritas serves over 400,000 clients, with more than 83,000 employees across 1,600 offices and laboratories in 140 countries, generating €6.3 billion in revenue in 2024.
In recognition of our sustainability efforts, we are ranked number 2 among 184 professional service companies in S&P Global’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment.
Turning to the Textile Exchange, this non-profit global organization focuses on fiber integrity and standards. It ensures traceability from farm to customer, safeguarding water, soil, and air quality.
Key certifications include OCS (Organic Content Standard), RCS (Recycled Claim Standard), GRS (Global Recycled Standard), RDS/RWS (Responsible Down/Wool Standard), and GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard). Each standard has specific criteria—for example, OCS 100 requires at least 95% organic content, while GOTS mandates a minimum of 75% organic cotton in a product.
Only after certification and auditing can manufacturers claim these labels.
Bureau Veritas also provides a wide range of sustainability services, including supplier training, energy and water assessments, carbon footprint analysis, life cycle assessments (LCA), ESG reporting, and environmental audits. Our certifications and services support circularity, climate action, energy efficiency, governance, and social compliance.
Additionally, accreditations such as M4E, ICS, SNCP, SEDEX, RAP, and Textile Exchange allow us to extend our services to suppliers and facilities worldwide.
