The International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) recently unveiled its 47th annual International Textile Machinery Shipment Statistics (ITMSS) report, highlighting key trends in textile machinery deliveries for 2024.
The data, compiled with the cooperation of over 200 textile machinery manufacturers, offers a comprehensive look at global production across six sectors: spinning, draw-texturing, weaving, large circular knitting, flat knitting, and finishing.
Overall Market Trends in 2024
Globally, 2024 saw varied performance in textile machinery shipments. New deliveries of short-staple spindles and open-end rotors experienced notable year-on-year declines of 40% and 39% respectively. In contrast, long-staple spindle shipments surged by 62%. Draw-texturing spindles also saw a significant boost, increasing by 77%, and shuttle-less loom shipments grew by 32%.
However, not all segments saw growth.
Deliveries of large circular knitting machines fell by 15%, while flat knitting machine shipments rose by 16%. The finishing segment collectively recorded a modest 6% increase in total deliveries.

Detailed Segment Performance
Spinning Machinery
In 2024, the total number of short-staple spindles shipped worldwide reached 5.92 million units, a decrease of 3.8 million from the previous year. The vast majority of these new shipments (90%) were destined for Asia & Oceania, where deliveries dropped by 36% compared to 2023. Significant declines were also observed in shipments to Africa (-64%), Europe (including Türkiye) (-56%), and North and Central America (-90%).
The only regions to experience an increase in short-staple spindle deliveries were South America (+1.7% to 82,600 units) and Eastern Europe (+12% to 10,500 units). The primary investors in the short-staple sector were China, India, Türkiye, Bangladesh, Egypt, and Indonesia.

Global shipments of open-end rotors totaled 623,000 units in 2024, approximately 390,000 fewer than in 2023. Asia & Oceania received 89% of these global shipments, though deliveries to the region decreased by 35% to 557,000 units. China, India, and Türkiye, the top three investors in rotors, experienced declines in investments of 32%, 57%, and 56%, respectively.
Most major destination countries saw a reduction in deliveries, with the exceptions of Vietnam and Bangladesh, which were the fourth and sixth largest destinations in 2024 and saw shipments increase by 214% and 44%, respectively, from 2023. For long-staple (wool) spindles, worldwide shipments increased to 600,000 units in 2024, representing a 60% rise. This positive trend was largely driven by increased deliveries to Asia & Oceania (138,000 units) and Eastern Europe (15,000 units).
Notably, Iran accounted for 40% of total long-staple spindle deliveries, China for 30%, and Vietnam for 13%.
