Addressing the CITI Sustainability Awards 2024-25 on 17th Feb. 2025, Rakesh Mehra, Chairman, CITI, @Bharat Tex 2025 platform stated that it's a pleasure and an honor to welcome Minister of State Margarita ji and the "guardians" of the textile industry: Rohit Kansal ji, Prajakta ma'am, Shubhra ma'am, and Rooprashi ji.
As you can see, women are now empowering the textile industry, and I'm confident that with their partnership, we'll achieve the Ministry's targets. Good afternoon to everyone, especially our industry friends. Minister, this is our first interaction, so I'd like to introduce CITI—the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry.
We strive to find common ground for everyone, but balancing the diverse interests within the industry is challenging. We'll keep you updated on our efforts.
CITI recognizes the importance of sustainability, a critical issue highlighted by the Prime Minister yesterday. For years, we've awarded sustainable practices, recognizing their growing importance, especially for the younger generation. The trend towards sustainability and circularity is clear.
Even in Switzerland, used clothing is sold at Zurich airport, signaling a potential disruption to the entire value chain. While reuse might impact new production, we must adapt.
We're all committed to circularity, sustainability, and traceability. While the cost of these practices has been a concern, as Mr. Jain explained, recycled materials are becoming more affordable due to healthy competition. Ultimately, the customer decides.
CITI's Cotton Development Research Association branch is doing excellent work, with a large team of scouts helping farmers improve yields.
CITI traditionally recognizes industry leaders who have contributed to its success. Today, alongside awards for sustainable practices, we'll honor senior leaders who have paved the way for us. I thank them for their leadership and contributions.
