Background
India's textiles and apparel industry is coming of age within the textile value chain, spanning from fibre to apparel enjoying an unparalleled diversity. However it has to be mentioned that it is so highly fragmented and segmented and, there is an immense need to cohesively collaborate demonstrating the spirit of shared values and resources in this centuries-old textile heritage to unlock the true potential, extend the scope as it is a standing display of country's culture and our economic strength.
The textile industry is 2nd largest employment generator in India, creating huge jobs and opportunities, especially in terms of empowering women to become financially independent making them industry-ready and imparting a skill set in the shortest possible time, besides the creation of a remarkable ecosystem allowing and supporting a whole lot of ancillary sectors and, the current dispositions is sharply focused to labour intensive textile sector working very closely with the textile value chain.
Another striking feature of this sector is it responsible for nearly three-quarters of the country’s total fibre consumption and goes without saying that cotton is the dominant fibre given India is 2nd largest cotton producer in the world.

What India is at best @ scale
Competitive landscape; Textiles is what India has been close to for centuries...Today India is the fifth largest exporter of textiles and clothing globally and, has demonstrated resilience and smart recovery Post-Corona though as we write the sector predominately MSMEs represented and despite enjoying labour-arbitrage in this world's most populous nation; is posed with several imponderables like high administrative costs, low-productivity syndrome, higher cost of capital and, trying to be politically right no point in whining about the lack of reforms in the labour code, and with little/no support from FTAs regime unlike its competing nations Bangladesh and Vietnam, lacks the advantage of economy of scales as been successfully demonstrated by China for long in the competitive landscape.
Forward-looking statements; times when collaboration/ partnership are supremely important although we have ground of history under our feet and have time old perspective and trade insights; a catalyst called "Bharat Tex" can be a just right inflection point for building technologies not only to transfer but to use to sector optimization, bring more and more cohesive partnerships across the textile value chain and from overseas as we live in an inter-dependent world and any sector has to learn to open, adapt acquiring new skill sets as we march forward.
