HKRITA and Epson Develop Silk-Like Regenerated Fibre from Cotton

The Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (“HKRITA”) and Seiko Epson Corporation (“Epson”; TSE: 6724) have succeeded in developing new regenerated cellulose fibre with a silk-like sheen from waste cotton fabric through a new production process.

The Vietnam Trade Office in India convened an online seminar on May 23, 2025. This seminal event was all about growing “Vietnam–India Cooperation in the Textile and Garment (T&A) Industry,” which was very well received, drawing a reasonably good response from the valuable participants featuring businesses, industry trade bodies/associations, and subject matter/trade experts from both countries, laying a solid foundation for a secure future. 

Global Standard, the nonprofit that owns and operates the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), today released its 2024 Annual Report highlighting its global mark on the organic textile industry. From announcing a new voluntary sustainability standard, to educating millions of consumers, last year marked multiple successes with an eye on the future to enhance people’s lives and the environment with organic textiles.

Coming out of another consecutively strong year for GOTS, 2024 culminated with 26 GOTS-approved certification bodies reporting a noteworthy 15,441 certified facilities (an increase of 5.2% from 2023) in 87 countries.

"Brands and retailers must remain at the forefront of both current and emerging consumer expectations, as well as evolving regulatory requirements, which increasingly scrutinize the entire production history of a given product,” says Jean-Pierre Haug, COO of Testex, an OEKO-TEX® institute.
